I’m not sure
Exactly how to feel.
This dream I see
Seems so real.
I want it so badly;
I feel it’s within my reach.
But all of my friends
Give me the same speech.
They tell me to be careful
I’m too sure of myself.
So what do I do?
I put my dreams on a shelf.
I feel afraid to try.
If I fail they’ll be right.
But I know I won’t fail
If I put up a fight.
That’s what I’ll do;
I’ll do it for me.
Then in the end
I’ll make them see.
This dreams is not theirs.
This dream in mine.
I put in the effort
And I put in the time.
The risk belongs to me.
It’s not theirs to take.
They don’t lose sleep
As I lie awake.
I’ll keep working hard.
The fruits of my labor will come.
Then I’ll dream a new dream
When this one is done.
This is my dream.
I’m glad I tried.
Now I can finally say
I’ve won back my pride.

Thank you so much. I’m so happy you like it! It is from the heart. I actually wrote this when I was much younger. It’s published in my book of poetry that I had published last year, “Heart Versus Mind: Words That Touch Your Heart.” I added a few verses and changed a few to update it to how I feel now that I’m older.
